Events in Los Angeles January 11 - 16, 2007 will mark the 60th anniversary of the Black Dahlia murder. The series of events called The Lost Weekend will honor Elizabeth Short's memory through an art exhibition titled Her Name Was Elizabeth at the Regency Galleries, the official Los Angeles Premiere of The Black Dahlia Movie directed by Ramzi Abed, a requiem and Project1947.

CBS is running a trailer for a Black Dahlia program that will air Tuesday, August 29th on 48 Hours. The trailer has a tie in with the movie, which opens the Venice Film Festival on August 30th.

Americas Most Wanted will be running a Black Dahlia segment Saturday, September 16th, the day after the movie opens.

The trailer for the dePalma Black Dahlia film has started to appear in theaters. Although the movie and the book its based on are pie-in-the-sky fiction, the trailer mixes actual photos of Elizabeth Short, newspaper clippings, comments from Det. Brian Carr and James Ellroy with a few brief shots from the film, thus giving the false impression that this film is the true story.

A second film, titled The Black Dahlia is slated for release in the fall. Ramzi Abed, the director, describes the film as more about her legacy as a symbol and even saint of struggling actresses in Hollywood. Says Ramzi, "I was careful not to say that I can solve her case, and more importantly, I believe she was an innocent and someone who deserves respect after her horrific departure from this life."

The Don Wolfe book is out. A big disappoinment. The research wasn't as rigorous as I expected. Many factual errors—from incorrect names to misinformation about the condition of the body. Where was the fact checker? If all the mistakes were corrected I wonder how his theory would hold up.

Delays, delays, delays....The Brian de Palma film based on James Ellroy's book, The Black Dahlia, is not on the list of films to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival. The February 2006 Premiere magazine lists the film for a Fall 2006 release.

A British crew was recently on the west coast filming and interviewing people for documentaries on the Black Dahlia and D.B. Cooper. The programs will air in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland on Sky One, British Sky Broadcasting's flagship TV channel.
